The Multistate Conservation Grant Program provides funding for wildlife restoration and sport fish restoration projects, as well as recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) projects. The program is authorized under the Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act and the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act. Eligible applicants include state governments, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, nonprofits, and others. The program has two types of grants: Traditional Multistate Conservation Grants (T-MSCG) and R3 Multistate Conservation Grants (R3-MSCG). T-MSCG funds can be used for projects involving research, restoration, conservation, management, and habitat improvement, while R3-MSCG funds can only be used for hunter recruitment and recreational shooter recruitment activities.
• Eligible activities include research, restoration, conservation, management, and habitat improvement for wild birds, wild mammals, sport fish, and their habitats.
• Eligible activities also include projects providing for public use and benefit from these resources, such as hunter safety and education, aquatic education, and angler R3 projects.
• R3 activities for fishing or boating are only eligible under T-MSCG.
• Eligible species include wild birds, wild mammals, and sport fish.
• Eligible project proposals must benefit a majority of states, a majority of states in a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region, or a majority of states belonging to a regional association of state fish and wildlife agencies.
