Description

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division seeks a qualified vendor to validate the compatibility of a newly‑designed 18‑foot high‑efficiency propeller with the existing DDG‑51 class destroyer hub, and to provide a detailed cost and schedule estimate for the engineering drawings, support, and manufacture of a full ship‑set of blades. This effort is to be performed on a firm‑fixed‑price basis under a sole‑source acquisition. The contractor must deliver a structural assessment report, engineering specifications, and a realistic production schedule, enabling the Navy to decide on full‑scale implementation. • Validate load compatibility between new 18‑ft propeller and existing hub. • Produce detailed engineering drawings for blade set. • Provide cost estimate for design, engineering support, and manufacturing. • Deliver schedule estimate for production and delivery of a ship‑set. • Submit a single‑item quotation (FOB Destination) by 9/8/2026.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The solicitation does not disclose a dollar value. Based on typical Navy‑level engineering studies for a full‑scale destroyer propeller set—covering structural analysis, detailed drawings, and a production cost schedule—a firm‑fixed‑price contract could range from a few hundred thousand dollars to low‑multiple‑million dollars. Factors influencing the amount include the complexity of the load analysis, the level of detail required in the drawings, the number of design iterations, and the cost of estimating manufacturing processes for a ship‑set of large‑diameter blades. A reasonable estimate is $500,000 – $2,000,000.
