The Early Career Research Program is a funding opportunity for early-career researchers in the fields of Advanced Scientific Computing Research, Biological and Environmental Research, Basic Energy Sciences, Fusion Energy Sciences, High Energy Physics, and Nuclear Physics. The program aims to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by the Office of Science. The program provides funding for up to five years, with a minimum award size of $750,000 for universities and $500,000 per year for DOE national laboratory staff. Key aspects of the program include:
• Eligibility is limited to U.S. academic institutions and DOE national laboratories
• Principal Investigators must be within 10 years of having received a Ph.D. and be either untenured assistant professors on the tenure track, untenured associate professors on the tenure track, or full-time, non-postdoctoral, permanent DOE national laboratory employees
• The program does not require cost sharing
• Applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov or the DOE Office of Science Portfolio Analysis and Management System (PAMS) website
• Review of proposals will be handled using the review criteria established in the announcement, with a focus on scientific and technical merit, appropriateness of the proposed research approaches, and likelihood of scientific impact
