TDA - JDA - Tainter Valve Repair/Rehab

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requires the repair and rehabilitation of at least one Tainter Valve at The Dalles Lock and Dam and two Tainter Valves at the John Day Lock and Dam. The primary scope of work will address structural issues identified in engineering drawings provided by USACE, including significant weld cracking, cracking of the Tainter valve skin plates, cavitation damage, advanced corrosion, and failure of the finish paint system. The rehabilitation and repair of the Tainter valves will include the removal and replacement of valve seals, seal plates, and seal plate hardware, and the installation of new armor plates. The project requires specialized welding certifications, skilled labor, and close coordination with USACE personnel. Some key points to consider: • The project involves the repair and rehabilitation of large hydraulic steel structures. • The contractor must have experience with AWS D1.1 welding and the repair of existing steel structures for a Government agency. • The contractor must have experience planning and executing critical lifts at an actively operating Government facility. • The project requires the use of a product with specific salient characteristics, such as Belzona 1111, to repair the scored bearing housing on the Main Boiler Feed Pump. • The project has a complex schedule, with delivery of the first repaired valve expected within 6 months and contract completion expected within 7 months.
