Higher Education Challenge Grants Program

The Higher Education Challenge (HEC) Grants Program, administered by USDA‑NIFA under CFDA 10.217, seeks to strengthen institutional capacity for food‑and‑agricultural sciences education at land‑grant and other eligible colleges and universities. Funding supports curriculum development, faculty recruitment, scientific instrumentation, and student recruitment/retention for master’s, doctoral, and veterinary (DVM) programs. Up to 36 awards will be made, each ranging from $150,000 to $750,000, for a total estimated funding pool of $5.7 million. Eligible applicants include accredited institutions that can confer graduate degrees in relevant fields; research foundations affiliated with those institutions may also apply.
