Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellowship for Students at Institutions Without NIH-Funded Institutional Predoctoral Dual-Degree Training Programs (Parent F30). This fellowship aims to support students at institutions without NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs. The purpose of the Kirschstein-NRSA is to enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising predoctoral students who are matriculated in a combined MD/PhD or other dual-doctoral degree training program. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • The fellowship experience is expected to clearly enhance the individual's potential to develop into a productive, independent physician/clinician-scientist. • Candidates must propose an integrated research and clinical training plan and a dissertation research project in scientific health-related fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. • This NOFO is designed specifically for candidates proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial, but does allow candidates to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a sponsor or co-sponsor. • Eligible applicants include institutions without NIH-funded institutional predoctoral dual-degree training programs, and the fellowship is open to various types of organizations, including state governments, nonprofits, and private institutions of higher education.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $250,000

The budget for this opportunity can be estimated based on the typical funding amounts for NIH fellowships. The average annual stipend for a predoctoral fellow can range from $25,000 to $40,000, and the fellowship can last for 2-5 years. Additionally, the fellowship may provide tuition and fees, as well as a small allowance for research expenses. Therefore, the total budget for the fellowship can be estimated to be around $100,000 to $250,000 over the course of the fellowship. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the location of the institution, the field of study, and the level of experience of the fellow.
