The Landscape Scale Restoration (LSR) competitive grant program aims to support high-impact projects that promote collaborative, science-based restoration of priority forest landscapes, leverage public and private resources, and advance priorities identified in a State Forest Action Plan (SFAP) or equivalent state-wide restoration strategy. The program is designed to encourage cross-boundary collaboration, coordination with other landscape-scale projects, and the use of innovative approaches to achieve measurable outcomes on the landscape. Eligible projects must align with a SFAP or equivalent state-wide restoration strategy and advance one or more of the Landscape Objectives, which include reducing the risk of uncharacteristic wildfires, improving fish and wildlife habitats, maintaining or improving water quality and watershed functions, and mitigating invasive species, insect infestation, and disease.
• Eligible entities include state and territorial forestry agencies, units of local government, federally recognized Indian Tribes, non-profit organizations, Alaska Native Corporations, and universities.
• Eligible projects must achieve on-the-ground outcomes on rural forest land, which is also considered nonindustrial private forest land or State forest land or both.
• The minimum funding request per project is $25,000, and the maximum is $300,000.
• Projects must be designed to achieve one or more of the Landscape Objectives and must include a description of how the project benefits or engages underserved communities or people.
• Priority will be given to project proposals that include cross-boundary collaboration, coordination with other landscape-scale projects, and the use of innovative approaches to achieve measurable outcomes on the landscape.
