Description

The Town of Coventry is seeking a qualified contractor to install a new traffic‑signal system at the intersection of Hopkins Hill Road and Centre of New England Boulevard. The scope includes removal of existing curbs and pavement, installation of new concrete sidewalks, granite and precast curbs, underground and overhead conduit, cable, handholes, a dual‑mast traffic‑signal arm, pedestals, a YUNEX M60 controller with video‑detection cameras, signal heads, and epoxy‑resin pavement markings, as well as temporary traffic protection and site cleanup. The work must comply with MUTCD standards, local utility requirements, and Rhode Island safety and environmental regulations. • Civil works – demolition, concrete sidewalk, curb installation, pavement marking removal and replacement. • Electrical & ITS – conduit, cabling, handholes, controller, video‑camera system, signal heads, and related hardware. • Traffic management – mandatory pre‑bid site conference, temporary signage, police detail allowance, and coordination with local agencies.

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $500,000

The solicitation’s sample bid form shows a placeholder total of $25,000, which is unrealistically low for a full traffic‑signal installation. Comparable projects in New England typically range from $150,000 to $500,000, depending on site conditions, equipment choices, and civil‑work extent. Assuming a mid‑size municipal intersection with modest underground utility work, a realistic contract value would likely fall between $200,000 and $400,000. Factors influencing the final amount include the price of the YUNEX controller and video‑camera system, the length of new conduit, and any additional traffic‑management or permitting costs.
