Description

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is seeking a light weight, man portable, belt-fed weapon chambered in 5.56x45mm to act as the life cycle replacement for the aging MK46 series of weapons. The goal is to replace the weapon while integrating advancements in material, manufacturing, and technology to provide the operators with a technically superior weapon. Key attributes of the proposed solution include a maximum weight of 11.5 lbs, a maximum length of 39 inches, and a Class I Mean Round Between Stoppages (MRBS) of 1,400 rounds. Proposers are expected to submit white papers, which will be evaluated based on technical merit and relevance. Selected proposers will be invited to participate in a virtual pitch day, and a follow-on production contract may be awarded without further competition. Some key points to consider are: * The proposed solution should meet the primary attributes outlined in the solicitation, including weight, length, and MRBS. * The solution should also address the secondary attributes, such as single-shot dispersion and burst dispersion. * Proposers should provide a detailed description of their proposed solution, including technical specifications and performance characteristics. * The evaluation process will include a review of the white papers, a virtual pitch day, and potentially a follow-on production contract.

Budget estimate

$5,000,000 – $20,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the solicitation does not provide a specific dollar amount for the contract. However, based on the complexity and scope of the project, it is likely that the contract value will be in the millions of dollars. The development and testing of a new weapon system can be a costly and time-consuming process, and the contractor will need to invest significant resources in order to meet the requirements outlined in the solicitation. A rough estimate for the contract value could be between $5 million and $20 million, depending on the scope and complexity of the project.
