The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking information from potential sources for the Geoscience Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System (PDS). The PDS is a system of Discipline Nodes that ensures the long-term secure preservation of NASA planetary science data and maintains its usability. The Geoscience Discipline Node will provide science data services, including ingesting geosciences data, validating data submissions, and providing expertise to guide and assist missions, instrument teams, programs, and individuals. The Node will also maintain tools to assist data providers in assembling, validating, and submitting archival products, and will provide value-added services to aid in searching and discovering archive products.
Some key responsibilities of the Geoscience Discipline Node include:
• Ingesting geosciences data from currently observing planetary missions and research scientists
• Validating data submissions and providing expertise to guide and assist missions, instrument teams, programs, and individuals
• Maintaining tools to assist data providers in assembling, validating, and submitting archival products
• Providing value-added services to aid in searching and discovering archive products
• Maintaining archiving standards for PDS data and ensuring interoperability with NASA, Science Mission Directorate (SMD), and Planetary Science Division (PSD) Data Services Program standards
• Participating in PDS working groups, communities of practice, and the PDS Management Council
• Collaborating with the NASA-provided services of the PDS Project Office, other PDS Discipline Nodes, and the PDS Engineering Node to identify and document a list of software, tools, models, workflows, or processes that can be combined or decommissioned to enable increased PDS enterprise efficiency.
