Description

The U.S. Navy’s Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport is issuing a sole‑source, firm‑fixed‑price contract to procure 300 units of the MK‑288 MOD 1 igniter (part 6105392) for the MK‑48 heavyweight torpedo program. The award will be made to the original equipment manufacturer, Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company (PacSci). The contractor must manufacture, test, inspect, and deliver the igniters from its facility in Chandler, Arizona, complying with extensive DoD, MIL‑STD, and hazardous‑materials regulations. Production lots will be subject to quality‑assurance inspections, first‑article testing is waived, but production‑lot testing, packaging, marking, and delivery of ammunition data cards are required. Access to the technical drawings is restricted to JCP‑certified custodians with valid DD‑2345 and current NIST 800‑171 (or CMMC Level 2) compliance.

Budget estimate

$1,500,000 – $3,000,000

The solicitation does not disclose a contract value. Based on the quantity (300 igniters) and typical unit costs for specialized naval explosive components (estimated $5,000‑$10,000 per unit), the total contract value is likely in the $1.5 million to $3 million range. The final amount will depend on exact unit pricing, any required tooling, testing, and logistics costs.
