Description

The City of South San Francisco is soliciting bids for the Chestnut Ave & Commercial Ave Intersection Improvements project. The project involves modernizing and reconstructing the intersection to improve safety and multimodal operations, with a focus on enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connectivity. The work includes the design and construction of a new traffic signal system, associated roadway improvements, and the installation of fiber-optic communication infrastructure. The project requires a Class A General Engineering Contractor with experience in traffic signal construction, roadway reconstruction, utility coordination, and traffic control in an active urban setting. Key aspects of the project include: • Removing the existing free-right "slip lane" and concrete island at the southeast corner of the intersection to reduce vehicle speeds and conflict points • Installing a new traffic signal system and interconnecting it with the nearby Chestnut Avenue & Civic Campus Way intersection • Providing temporary pedestrian access routes and maintaining convenient access to affected houses and buildings • Coordinating work with utility companies and municipal departments to ensure minimal disruption • Complying with environmental regulations and taking measures to limit dust and dirt rising and scattering in the air The project has various bid items, including mobilization, demobilization, and final cleanup; traffic control system; construction staking and layout; removal of concrete, brick pavers, and other materials; roadway excavation; hot mix asphalt; polymer modified type II slurry seal; and fiber-optic cable installation.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the scope of work and industry standards. The project involves reconstructing an intersection, installing a new traffic signal system, and laying fiber-optic cables. Considering the complexity and scale of the project, the budget could be substantial. A rough estimate for a project of this nature could be in the range of $1 million to $5 million, depending on factors such as the size of the intersection, the extent of the roadway improvements, and the length of the fiber-optic cable installation. However, without more specific information on the project's requirements and the bidding process, it is difficult to provide a more precise estimate.
