Unit 8 Battery Replacement at the Power Plant

The City of Ames is seeking bids for the replacement of the station batteries for Unit 8 at the Power Plant. The project includes replacing the batteries, spill containment system, and several battery accessories. The batteries will be rack mounted in a building with thermostatically controlled temperature, and the ambient temperature range is 60 F to 105 F. The seismic forces to which this battery may be subjected are defined by a zone 0 earthquake area. The vendor shall supply, install, and start up the new battery set and remove and properly dispose of the existing station battery, spill protection, and rack, as necessary. • The existing 60 cell battery is comprised of Exide GNB #NXT-27 with 8-hour, 1753 AH rating. • The existing battery charger is a LaMarche A12B-200-130V-C3-60L-021+ with Modbus interface module. • The nominal voltage will be 130 VDC, and the plate alloy shall be lead-calcium type. • The cell type shall be flooded, and the number of cells is 60, “floated” at the voltage recommended by the vendor. • The container shall be clear plastic jars that allow view of plate condition and sediment space for adequate maintenance in a vented, transparent container made of high impact, transparent SAN, UL 94HB material or tested equivalent.
