Prototype Protective Cover for MK38 MOD 2/3 Machine Gun System

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking a contractor to design, develop, and fabricate a prototype protective cover system for the MK38 MOD 2/3 Machine Gun System. The system should consist of three distinct covers that protect the main gun assembly, the Electro-Optical Sight (EOS), and the optional MK52 7.62mm Coax Machine Gun. The covers should be physically independent, waterproof, and meet specific performance standards. The contractor will be required to deliver a form-fit prototype, a final prototype, and ten production units. The contract will be awarded based on the best value to the government, considering factors such as price, delivery time, and technical capabilities. Some key requirements for the protective cover system include: • The covers should be designed to prevent moisture retention and corrosion. • The covers should be made of a breathable mesh material and have a heavy-duty zipper closure. • The covers should have reinforced carrying handles and be capable of storing the complete three-piece protective cover system. • The contractor should use securing straps with a minimum tensile strength of 1200 lbs and buckles with a minimum breaking strength of 300 lbs. • The contractor should use hook-and-loop fasteners that meet or exceed the performance requirements of Commercial Item Description (CID) A-A-55126, Type I, Class 1.
