Description

The Quantum FAST Challenge is a state‑funded competitive grant aimed at bolstering California’s quantum ecosystem. It supports two priority tracks: (1) education and workforce‑development projects that create a pipeline of talent for quantum technologies, and (2) applied use‑case demonstrations that pair university researchers and students with industry partners to showcase quantum‑adjacent applications. Eligible lead applicants are public higher‑education institutions (UC, CSU, or community colleges); private industry, nonprofits, and workforce organizations may serve as partners. The grant offers $50 k–$500 k per award, with a total pool of $2.7 M, and a two‑year performance period (Feb 2027 – Feb 2029). • Open to California public universities and community colleges (lead applicant) • Projects must focus on quantum education/training or industry‑partnered demonstrations • Funding via reimbursement, no matching requirement • Application deadline Oct 20 2026; award announcement Nov 30 2026 • Total funding $2.7 M; award size $50 k–$500 k • Period of performance: 2 years (Feb 2027 – Feb 2029) • Contact: Jayden Saldana ([email protected])

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $500,000

The total grant pool is $2,700,000, with individual awards ranging from $50,000 to $500,000. Assuming the agency distributes the full amount, a typical award will fall within that range. Smaller education‑training projects may receive near the lower bound, while larger industry‑partnered demonstrations could approach the upper bound. Therefore, the expected budget per successful applicant is roughly $50k‑$500k.
