Epidemiology Program for American Indian/Alaska Native Tribes and Urban Indian Communities

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is announcing the availability of funds for the Epidemiology Program for American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes and Urban Indian Communities. The purpose of this program is to strengthen public health capacity of Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs) and the Tribes, Tribal Organizations, Urban Indian organizations, and Intertribal Consortiums they support. The goal is to fulfill the seven functions of TECs as outlined in the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (IHCIA) at 25 U.S.C. 1621m(b). Some key points of this opportunity include: • Eligible applicants include Federally recognized Indian Tribes, Tribal organizations, Urban Indian organizations, and Intertribal Consortiums. • The IHS plans to fund enough TECs to serve American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribes and Urban Indian communities in all 12 IHS Service areas and the urban population. • The expected total program funding is $35,000,000, with an expected number of awards being 12. • The funding range per applicant for the first budget period is $2,000,000 to $3,500,000 for required activities, and $75,000 to $200,000 for optional activities. • The project duration is expected to be five years, with continuation funding depending on the availability of funds and agency budget priorities.
