The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking applications for the Orthopaedic Research Program (ORP) Clinical Research Award (CRA). The CRA aims to support clinical research that evaluates orthopaedic-specific factors and interventions, with the goal of generating clinically useful evidence to optimize patient outcomes and inform clinical care or policy. The ORP expects research findings to benefit Service Members, their families, Veterans, and the general public. Applications must address at least one of the FY26 ORP CRA Focus Areas, which include Ligamentous Trauma, Osseointegration Outcomes, Return-to-Duty Strategies, and Military Women’s Health. The award offers two research levels: Research Level 1 (RL1) supports clinical research, while Research Level 2 (RL2) supports clinical trials.
• Key areas of focus include:
• Ligamentous Trauma: developing treatments for musculoskeletal extremity soft tissue trauma to optimize return to duty, work, or reintegration
• Osseointegration Outcomes: identifying best practices to optimize outcomes for patients with percutaneous osseointegrated prosthetic limbs
• Return-to-Duty Strategies: optimizing decision-support tools, interventions, and rehabilitation strategies to retain Service Members on duty or enable them to return to duty within one year of injury
• Military Women’s Health: assessing the impact of novel or established orthopaedic injury care interventions on military women’s health
