Description

The United States Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) is conducting market research to identify conformable batteries to power wearable hubs for special warfare personnel. The current batteries used are bulky and obstruct movement, and the solution shall be more streamlined and better integrate into an operator's silhouette profile and body-worn kit. The battery shall be SMBus and SBData compliant, wearable, and of a size less than one inch in thickness/depth and less than 11x11 inches in length/height. The battery unit shall be less than or equal to 3 pounds in maximum weight, AC/DC chargeable, and capable of operating in extreme environments. Some key requirements include: • The battery shall be SMBus and SBData compliant to v1.1 as a minimum. • The battery shall be wearable and of a size less than one (1) inch in thickness/depth and less than 11x11 inches (length/height). • The battery unit less than or equal to 3 pounds in maximum weight (excluding cables, adapters, and charging accessories). • The battery shall be AC/DC chargeable, with vehicle and/or solar as preferred secondary options. • The battery shall be capable of operating in extreme environments to include temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. • The battery, when fully charged, shall be capable of providing power exceeding five (5) hours of continuous use.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation. However, considering the complexity and specificity of the requirements, the budget could be substantial. The US Air Force is likely to invest significant funds in developing and procuring conformable batteries that meet their needs. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of units required, the production costs, and the level of competition. A rough estimate could be in the range of $500,000 to $5 million, depending on the scope and scale of the project.
