The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is seeking a lightweight, man-portable, select-fire, belt-fed weapon chambered in 7.62 NATO to replace the aging MK48 series of weapons. The goal is to integrate advancements in material, manufacturing, and technology to provide a technically superior weapon. Key attributes include a monolithic or continuous top rail, high-pressure ammunition capability, and novel recoil mitigation technology. The proposed solution will be evaluated based on technical merit and relevance, with a focus on meeting primary attributes such as weight, length, and cyclic rate. • The weapon should have a maximum weight of 17 lbs and a maximum length of 40 inches. • The weapon should be capable of firing 7.62mm NATO ammunition and have a minimum cyclic rate of 400 rpm. • The weapon should have a monolithic or continuous top rail and be capable of accepting high-pressure ammunition. • The weapon should have a novel recoil mitigation technology to facilitate effective employment.
