Description

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is offering a licensing opportunity for RELAP5-3D, a fully integrated system-level modeling code for simulating the behavior of nuclear power plants and other complex thermal-fluid systems. RELAP5-3D supports detailed modeling of multiphase flow, heat transfer, reactor kinetics, and fluid-structure interactions. The key advantages of RELAP5-3D include comprehensive simulation capabilities, multidimensional modeling, built-in neutronics, high fidelity and flexibility, and interoperable framework. The market applications of RELAP5-3D include advanced reactor design and licensing, safety analysis, plant performance evaluation, R&D and academic use, and coupled system modeling. • The code is capable of performing both steady-state and transient analyses in one-, two-, or three-dimensional geometries. • It has built-in reactor kinetics and neutron transport models. • It supports multiple fluids, flow regimes, and non-condensable gases. • It has fully coupled heat structures and control system modeling. • It has parallel processing and restart capabilities for large, complex runs. • It has optional coupling with external tools for fuel performance, CFD, or systems-level co-simulation.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The budget for this licensing opportunity is difficult to estimate as it depends on various factors such as the terms of the license agreement, the market demand for RELAP5-3D, and the revenue generated by the licensee. However, considering that RELAP5-3D is a specialized software for nuclear reactor analysis, the licensing fee could be substantial. A rough estimate could be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000 per year, depending on the scope of the license and the number of users.
