The Resident Instruction Grants Program for Institutions of Higher Education in Insular Areas (RIIA) and the Agriculture and Food Sciences Facilities and Equipment (AGFEI) program aim to promote and strengthen the ability of eligible institutions in the Insular Areas to carry out education within the food and agricultural sciences. The programs support projects that improve formal, postsecondary agricultural sciences education/instruction, develop degree programs emphasizing new and emerging employment opportunities, and increase the number and diversity of students pursuing a 2 or 4-year postsecondary education in the food and agricultural sciences. Key areas of focus include curricula design, materials development, and library resources; faculty preparation and enhancement for teaching; instruction delivery systems; scientific instrumentation for teaching and research; student experiential learning; and student recruitment, retention, and educational equity.
• Eligible institutions include institutions of higher education located in the Insular Areas, including public or non-profit 2-year and 4-year accredited institutions that offer certificate/degree programs in the food and agricultural sciences.
• The programs support standard grants and planning activity grants, with award amounts ranging from $30,000 to $200,000.
• The project period may range from 36 to 48 months for standard grants and up to 36 months for planning activity grants.
• Applicants must submit their applications through Grants.gov by the deadline, and applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as the potential for advancing the quality of education, proposed approach and cooperative linkages, institutional capability and capacity building, key personnel, and budget and cost-effectiveness.
