Building Bridges between Native Communities and National Parks

The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source master cooperative agreement for the project "Building Bridges between Native Communities and National Parks". The project aims to provide opportunities for National Parks to expand lines of communication with neighboring communities and tribes by providing local Native American youth access to public lands through employment, recreation, and resource stewardship. The project will employ Native American youth and help them develop valuable skills in invasive non-native plant management, native plant restoration, wildlife monitoring, cultural resources stewardship, interpretation, recreation, and facilities maintenance. Some key aspects of the project include: • Providing a six-person SCC-AL crew to work on projects in various National Parks • Engaging each SCC-AL crew member in project tasks for 40 hours per week • Providing reliable transportation for SCC-AL staff, supplies, and equipment • Providing programmatic structure, interpretive programs, and educational elements • Providing a Program Coordinator to serve as a liaison between the NPS and SCC-AL
