Description

The Air Force Material Command (AFMC) Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) is seeking information from potential sources that manufacture and offer commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products that meet the requirements for the Fixed Base Weather Systems (FBWS) program. The program requires advanced weather sensors that can improve existing weather sensor capabilities by incorporating modern technologies, such as depolarization, to differentiate hydrometeors, lithometeors, aerosols, and other weather elements. The sensors should be able to provide greater insights into the microphysics of the atmosphere, including cloud detection, visibility, and present weather. The program also requires the ability to ramp production of up to 350 sensors over a 5-year period. Key requirements include: * Improve existing weather sensor capabilities by incorporating modern technologies * Provide greater insights into the microphysics of the atmosphere, including cloud detection and visibility * Detect and measure cloud layers, surface-based visibility, and slant range visibility * Determine and report surface-based visibility, slant range visibility, and RVR at 50ft increments * Ability to ramp production of up to 350 sensors over a 5-year period * Compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and industry certifications such as ISO 9001

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $50,000,000

The estimated budget for this opportunity is difficult to determine as it is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation. However, based on the requirements and the potential production of up to 350 sensors over a 5-year period, a rough estimate could be in the range of $10 million to $50 million. This estimate is highly speculative and may vary depending on the actual requirements and the complexity of the project. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the cost of development, production, and testing of the advanced weather sensors, as well as the potential for future contracts and production orders.
