Description

The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA) grants program supports projects that promote the conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The program seeks to fund projects that demonstrate they will improve the conservation of neotropical migratory bird species in a specific measurable way. Proposals must describe the problem, the proposed solution to the problem, why the proposed activities and objectives are best suited to alleviate the problem, and how the applicant intends to measure successful implementation of project activities. Key information about the job includes: • The program's purpose is to perpetuate healthy populations of neotropical migratory birds, assist in the conservation of neotropical migratory birds by supporting conservation initiatives, and provide financial resources and foster international cooperation for those initiatives. • Project proposals must demonstrate that the project will enhance the conservation of neotropical migratory bird species, include mechanisms to ensure adequate local public participation in project development and implementation, contain assurances that the project will be implemented in consultation with relevant wildlife management authorities, demonstrate sensitivity to local historic and cultural resources, and comply with applicable laws. • The program seeks to fund projects that address Neotropical Migratory Birds identified as a conservation priority by a government agency or bird conservation initiative, contribute to achieving goals and objectives of an international bird conservation plan, and provide a direct or indirect benefit to the population of NMB. • The program's Fiscal Year 2024 funding may not be appropriated by Congress before the proposal is submitted, and any grant selections are contingent on the availability of funds. Some of the key features of the program include: • The program supports the conservation of neotropical migratory birds throughout their range. • The program provides financial resources and fosters international cooperation for conservation initiatives. • The program seeks to fund projects that demonstrate they will improve the conservation of neotropical migratory bird species in a specific measurable way. • The program requires project proposals to include mechanisms to ensure adequate local public participation in project development and implementation. • The program requires project proposals to contain assurances that the project will be implemented in consultation with relevant wildlife management authorities. • The program requires project proposals to demonstrate sensitivity to local historic and cultural resources and comply with applicable laws.
