Description

The California Transportation Commission is offering up to $500 million in grant funding for the 2026 Solutions for Congested Corridors Program. Eligible public agencies – regional transportation planning agencies, county transportation commissions, and Caltrans – may nominate projects that are already included in an adopted regional transportation plan and a comprehensive corridor plan. Funded projects can address highway, street, rail, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and habitat restoration improvements, with a focus on safety, congestion reduction, accessibility, economic development, air quality, land‑use efficiency, matching‑fund levels, and timely completion. Awards will be made in June 2027, with a two‑year performance period for each grant. Applications are due 11 Nov 2026. • Eligible applicants: public agencies (regional planning agencies, county commissions, Caltrans) located in California • Eligible project types: highway/road upgrades, HOV/managed lanes, auxiliary lanes, truck climbing lanes, dedicated bike lanes, transit facilities, rail facilities, bike/pedestrian paths, habitat preservation – but not general‑purpose lane construction • Funding: State‑sourced (SB 1 Road Repair and Accountability Act), reimbursable, no matching‑fund requirement, no letter of intent required • Total program funding: $500 M; number of awards and per‑award amounts to be determined • Application deadline: 19 Nov 2026 (23:59 UTC) • Award announcement: June 2027; performance period: 2 years

Budget estimate

$5,000,000 – $50,000,000

The program earmarks $500 million in total funding, but the exact number of awards is listed as “Dependent.” Assuming a modest distribution of 10–20 awards, individual grant amounts could range from $5 million to $50 million. Larger, multi‑modal corridor projects (e.g., extensive highway upgrades with HOV lanes) would be at the higher end, while smaller targeted improvements (e.g., dedicated bike lanes or localized transit facility upgrades) would be nearer the lower end. Matching‑fund requirements are not imposed, and reimbursement is the funding method, which can affect cash‑flow timing but not the total award size.
