The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the National Council for Preservation Education for the project "NCPE Interns with Gulf Islands National Seashore". The project aims to provide training opportunities to qualified undergraduate and graduate students in academic programs in historic preservation and related disciplines. The students will work alongside NPS staff in the cultural resources and interpretation fields in different park units and offices throughout the nation. The interns will be assigned sites according to their areas of expertise and the requirements of the site, and will have substantive assignments in their areas of study. The project will support the NPS mandate of preserving the nation's heritage through work products associated with the training, and will also support NCPE's goals and additional NPS mandate of improving and developing preservation education.
Some key aspects of the project include:
* Providing training opportunities to qualified students
* Assigning interns to work alongside NPS staff in cultural resources and interpretation fields
* Compensating interns with a stipend
* Supporting the NPS mandate of preserving the nation's heritage
* Supporting NCPE's goals and additional NPS mandate of improving and developing preservation education
