Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is proposing to perform maintenance dredging of the New York Harbor, Sandy Hook Federal Navigation Channel. The project involves removing approximately 190,000 cubic yards of selected critical shoals from the Sandy Hook Channel to a depth of -35 feet Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth. The dredged material will be transported to and placed at the Sea Bright Offshore Borrow Area (SBOBA). The contractor will be required to commence work within five calendar days after the date of receipt of the notice to proceed and complete all basic work ready for use not later than 60 calendar days after the receipt of the notice to proceed. Some key points to consider include: • The project requires the use of a mechanical dredge with a clamshell bucket and multiple ocean-going barges, tug boats, and ancillary equipment. • The contractor must maintain an integrated production of at least 8,000 cubic yards per calendar day. • The project is estimated to cost between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. • Liquidated damages of $3,260.00 per calendar day of delay will be assessed to the contractor until all work under the contract is accepted as complete.
