Description

The Mississippi State University, Office of Procurement & Contracts, is seeking bids for the design, fabrication, installation, and verification of functionality and accuracy of a high-speed wind tunnel and a separate low-speed wind tunnel. The wind tunnels will be used to determine droplet size and evaluate off-target movement of pesticides. The successful bidder will be responsible for providing a turnkey operation, including all necessary components, installation, and testing. The project requires the bidder to visit the site before submitting a bid and to provide a safety plan. The contract time for this project is 270 calendar days from the successful bidder's notice to proceed. Key features of the wind tunnels include control and monitoring systems, uniform airflow outlet nozzles, test section areas, and air scrubber systems. The bidder must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations. • The high-speed wind tunnel should have a maximum speed of 200 mph and a test section area of 12 ft x 12 ft. • The low-speed wind tunnel should have a maximum speed of 20 mph and a test section area of 4 ft x 4 ft. • The bidder must provide engineered drawings for review and approval by MAFES. • The bidder must install all necessary electrical components and connect the building electrical service to the wind tunnel motor. • The bidder must provide a one-year warranty for areas repaired and a material warranty.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

Based on the complexity and scope of the project, the estimated budget could range from $500,000 to $2,000,000. This estimate is influenced by the requirement for custom-designed and fabricated wind tunnels, the need for specialized electrical and control systems, and the necessity for thorough testing and validation. The successful bidder will need to provide a turnkey operation, including all necessary components, installation, and testing, which will also impact the overall cost.
