Sacramento County Children's Coalition - School Suspension Prevention

The Sacramento County Children's Coalition is seeking a community-based organization to conduct an in-depth analysis of school suspension trends and develop a comprehensive plan to guide policymakers in implementing strategies to reduce school suspension rates. The project aims to address the root causes of school suspension by advancing preventative, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate approaches that keep students engaged in learning and connected to supportive environments. The selected organization will be responsible for providing a comprehensive analysis of school suspension rates, identifying promising practices, and developing clear recommendations for policymakers. The project will be funded with Children's Trust Fund dollars, and the selected organization will be required to comply with the County's Good Neighbor Policy and Web Accessibility Policy. Some key aspects of the project include: • Providing a comprehensive analysis of school suspension rates across Sacramento County • Identifying actions, policies, and promising practices that have contributed to reducing suspension rates • Developing clear, actionable recommendations for policymakers to implement strategies that reduce school suspension rates • Conducting an in-depth examination of the root causes of school suspensions, including socio-economic factors, implicit and explicit bias, and the role of in-school and out-of-school engagement and support systems
