Description

The Lower American River Conservancy Program, administered by the California Wildlife Conservation Board, provides grant funding to nonprofit, public agency, and tribal partners for projects that restore, enhance, protect, and improve natural and cultural resources along the Lower American River Parkway. Eligible projects may involve habitat acquisition, restoration, invasive species control, stormwater capture and treatment, trail and recreational facility improvements, and educational/interpretive installations. Applications must be approved by the program advisory committee and then by the Wildlife Conservation Board. No cost‑share is required, but higher matching contributions increase scoring. Funding is available on a continuous basis up to a total of $2.5 million, with awards issued as needed through advances and reimbursements. The grant period runs until June 30 2027. • Eligible applicants: nonprofit organizations, public agencies, tribal governments • Geographic focus: Lower American River (Sacramento County) and adjacent lands • Funding amount: up to $2.5 M total; number of awards dependent • Project types: habitat restoration, invasive species removal, stormwater projects, trail/park improvements, educational facilities • Application requirements: Letter of intent required; full grant guidelines must be reviewed; submit via online portal • Evaluation: higher cost‑share contributions earn additional points (though not mandatory)

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $2,500,000

The program’s total available funding is $2,500,000, with the number of awards unspecified (dependent). Individual project awards could range from modest $100,000‑$250,000 projects up to larger multi‑million‑dollar initiatives. Therefore, a realistic earnings estimate for a single award would be roughly $100,000 on the low end to the full $2,500,000 on the high end, depending on project scope, matching contributions, and competitive scoring.
