The program seeks to attract outstanding students and produce graduates capable of enhancing the Nation's food and agricultural scientific and professional work force. Key areas of focus include:
* Attracting and supporting undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented groups
* Enhancing the quality of post-secondary education
* Strengthening institutional capabilities to meet clearly delineated needs
* Advancing educational equity
* Multidisciplinary and/or problem-based focus
* Potential for adoption by other institutions
The program provides funding for projects that address these areas, with a focus on innovative teaching or education proposals that can impact and become models for other institutions.
