The Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) provides funding to entities to work alongside HUD to prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices. The Education and Outreach Initiative (EOI) aims to educate the public, housing providers, and other stakeholders about their rights and obligations under fair housing laws. The program provides competitive awards to eligible nonprofit and other fair housing organizations to develop and carry out coordinated education and outreach efforts and media products. Key activities include:
* Developing and implementing education and outreach programs
* Creating media products to inform individuals about their fair housing rights and obligations
* Conducting outreach activities, education events, and fair housing workshops
* Partnering with local universities to develop innovative approaches to fair housing education and outreach
* Providing training and technical assistance to housing industry professionals and community members.
The program has two components: the National Media Campaign (NMC) and the General Component (GC). The NMC is designed to provide a centralized, coordinated effort for the development and dissemination of fair housing media products, while the GC carries out projects that prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices by establishing or supporting regional, local, and community-based education and outreach activities.
