Description

The Family Unification Program (FUP) is a multi-year grant opportunity provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program aims to provide Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) assistance to two primary groups: families and youth. Families are those for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary factor in the imminent placement of a child in out-of-home care, or a delay in the discharge of a child to the family from out-of-home care. Youth are individuals at least 18 years old and not more than 24 years old who have left foster care or will leave foster care within 180 days. The voucher duration for families has no time limit, while the voucher duration for youth is limited to 36 months, with the possibility of an extension of up to 24 months under the Fostering Stable Housing Opportunities (FSHO) program. The key aspects of this opportunity include: • Providing HCV assistance to families and youth • Partnering with public child welfare agencies (PCWAs) to provide housing assistance • Offering voucher durations with no time limit for families and 36 months for youth, with possible extensions • Aiming to prevent the placement of children in out-of-home care and to provide stable housing for youth • Requiring applicants to be public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities • Providing an estimated funding of $5,000,000 and an award ceiling of $1,700,000.
