The Multistate Conservation Grant (MSCG) Program, administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service, provides funding for projects that address regional or national priority needs of states and their partners beyond the scope and capabilities of a single state. The program has two components: the Traditional Multistate Conservation Grant Program (T-MSCGP) and the Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) Multistate Conservation Grant Program (R3-MSCGP). Eligible applicants include state governments, public and private institutions of higher education, and nonprofits. Proposals must address one or more of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) Strategic Priorities. The primary goal of both programs is to provide grant funds for projects such as research, boating access development, hunter safety and education, aquatic education, fish and wildlife habitat improvements, and recruitment and retention of hunters and shooters.
Key aspects of the program include:
• Eligible activities under T-MSCGP include sport fisheries and wildlife management, research projects, boating access development, and hunter safety and education.
• Eligible activities under R3-MSCGP are limited to hunter recruitment and recreational shooter recruitment projects.
• Proposals must benefit a majority of states or a majority of states within a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region.
• The program has a two-part application process, with initial proposals due by May 18, 2022, and full proposals due by July 19, 2022, for invited applicants.
• The estimated total funding for the program is $11,000,000, with maximum awards of $1,000,000 and minimum awards of $50,000.
