Description

The United States Space Force (USSF) is seeking sources and requesting industry feedback regarding a potential solicitation/acquisition for National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Phase 3 Emergent Missions. The Government is looking for launch service providers that can meet critical National Security Space (NSS) mission requirements. The requirement includes launching up to 25 high-value NSS assets into highly stressing orbits over the course of three fiscal years (2027, 2028, and 2029). The key technical challenges for these missions include direct insertion of payloads to Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), as well as the ability to perform multi-manifest missions. • The Government is seeking NSSL-certified launch service providers to meet the specified launch requirements. • The launch service providers must demonstrate their technical capability to deliver payloads to the specified orbits. • The providers must also demonstrate their ability to integrate and execute multi-manifest launches. • The Government is looking for companies that can provide the total mission assurance required by the U.S. Government for these missions.

Budget estimate

$100,000,000 – $2,500,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide a specific amount. However, based on the fact that the Government is seeking to launch up to 25 high-value NSS assets into highly stressing orbits, the cost is likely to be substantial. The cost of launching a single satellite can range from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dollars, depending on the size and complexity of the satellite, as well as the launch vehicle used. Assuming an average cost of $100 million per launch, the total cost for 25 launches could be around $2.5 billion. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual cost could be higher or lower, depending on various factors such as the specific requirements of the mission, the launch vehicle used, and the level of mission assurance required.
