The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) is offering funding through the Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity (LAND) Grant Program to assist municipal conservation and agriculture commissions in acquiring interests in land for conservation and passive recreation. The program aims to protect and enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, conserve natural resources and open space, and address climate change. Eligible applicants must have an approved Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) on file with the Division of Conservation Services (DCS) or submit a draft plan by the application deadline. The maximum grant award is $425,000 per municipality, and the program requires a reimbursement of 52% to 70% of the total eligible project cost.
• Eligible projects include the purchase of land in fee simple or the purchase of a Conservation Restriction (CR).
• Properties must be currently unprotected and provide public access for passive outdoor recreation.
• Costs eligible for reimbursement include property acquisition, title search and certification, baseline documentation reports, and stewardship activities.
• Ineligible costs include staff salaries, application preparation and submission costs, and equipment or goods.
• The application package must include an application form, appraisal report, letter of authorization, and project narrative, among other documents.
