The Indian Health Service (IHS) is accepting applications for the Tribal Self-Governance Planning Cooperative Agreement Program. This program provides resources to Tribes interested in entering the Tribal Self-Governance Program (TSGP) or expanding their current programs. The TSGP allows Tribes to negotiate with the IHS to assume control over health care programs and services. The purpose of this planning cooperative agreement is to provide resources to Tribes to make plans to enter the TSGP or expand their program offerings. Key aspects of the program include:
• Providing resources to Tribes to make plans to enter the TSGP or expand their program offerings
• Allowing Tribes to negotiate with the IHS to assume control over health care programs and services
• Giving Tribes flexibility to tailor their health care needs by choosing one of three ways to get health care from the federal government for their citizens
• Requiring a thorough planning phase to help Tribes make informed decisions about which programs, services, functions, and activities (PSFAs) to assume
• Allowing Tribes to choose to combine options based on their individual needs and circumstances
