The National Park Service intends to award a single-source justified cooperative agreement to Conservation Legacy for the Youth Conservation Internships project. The project aims to engage up to 8 youth conservation interns to assist with resource management, facility management, and visitor services projects at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. The interns will participate in professional development workshops and trainings in resource conservation and vocational skills. The project's principal public purpose is to support the Government's objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment and public lands management through project work at a national park unit.
• The project will provide hands-on opportunities for interns to understand various conservation career paths.
• The interns will participate in projects such as re-planting native vegetation, general maintenance, and serving as "dune docents" to educate visitors.
• The project will create future public lands advocates and conservation-minded individuals.
• The National Park Service will work in partnership with Conservation Legacy to recruit local San Luis Valley youth to serve as conservation interns.
