Description
The John H. Prescott Marine Mammal Rescue Assistance Grant provides federal funding to eligible members of the U.S. National Marine Mammal Stranding Network and the National Entanglement Response Network for activities that support marine‑mammal rescue, stranding response, data collection, facility costs, and capacity‑building. Applicants must submit a Prescott Letter of Eligibility and comply with registration requirements (SAM.gov, Grants.gov, eRA Commons). Funding ranges from $125,000 to $150,000 per award, with an expected project period of up to one year. The grant supports both emergency response and longer‑term research and development activities across all NOAA regions.
• Eligible entities include state, local, tribal governments, nonprofits, for‑profit firms, higher‑education institutions, and individuals that are network participants or collaborators.
• Funding can be used for (A) treatment and care of sick, injured, or entangled marine mammals, (B) emergency stranding response, (C) scientific data and sample collection, (D) direct facility operating costs, and (E) network capacity building (training, equipment caches, outreach).
• Proposals are evaluated on alignment with four program priorities: Stranding Response, Entanglement Response, Diagnostic Labs/Services, and Research & Development.
• Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec 1, 2026 via Grants.gov; late submissions are not accepted.
