Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking information from capable organizations to determine their availability and capability to perform preclinical medications discovery and abuse liability testing. The testing will be conducted to evaluate potential pharmacotherapies for substance use disorders and abuse liability testing of new street drugs, medications, and potential medications in rodents. The contract will be utilized by the Addiction Treatment Discovery Program (ATDP) within NIDA's Division of Therapeutics and Medical Consequences. • The contract will require the evaluation of compounds for their ability to produce positive or negative hedonic effects, and their ability to alter the "rewarding" properties of drugs of abuse. • The contract will also require the evaluation of compounds in assays to determine their ability to alter the aversive state that exists during withdrawal from chronic opioid administration in rodents. • The contract will require the establishment and maintenance of security protocols to obtain, receive, store, track, and monitor the use of blinded test compounds. • The contract will require the maintenance of a chronological log of compound receipt, evaluation results, documents, and laboratory notebooks. • The contract may include optional periods and increased quantities to continue work or increase work based on programmatic needs and budget availability.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this contract is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide information on the budget or the scope of work. However, based on the complexity of the tasks involved, such as preclinical medications discovery and abuse liability testing, the budget could be substantial. The contract may require significant resources, including personnel, equipment, and facilities, which could drive up the cost. Additionally, the contract may involve multiple optional periods and increased quantities, which could also impact the budget. A rough estimate could be between $500,000 and $5,000,000 per year, depending on the scope of work and the resources required.
