Description

The California Department of Food and Agriculture is seeking a qualified contractor to provide stand‑by pesticide‑application services for the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP) control program in Kern County. The contractor must supply all needed foliar and soil pesticides, maintain a fleet of spray‑trucks and backpack sprayers, provide a licensed Pest Control Advisor, and be ready to deploy equipment on short notice to treat orchards at dawn or night hours as directed. Work includes mixing, loading, calibrating, and applying pesticides; maintaining equipment cleanliness; completing daily treatment logs; and submitting monthly Pesticide Use Reports. The contract is one‑year with two optional one‑year renewals, and payment is based on actual gallons sprayed plus associated labor and material costs. • Provide stand‑by spray‑truck fleet (5‑10 operational trucks + 2 standby) and backpack sprayers, all equipped with digital flow meters and contamination‑free tanks. • Perform pesticide mixing, loading, calibration, and application (foliar & soil) for ACP and other pests, following CDFA and label requirements. • Supply a licensed Pest Control Advisor to prepare application recommendations, calibration sheets, and PURs; maintain daily logs and monthly reporting for invoicing.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The contract pays per‑gallon of pesticide applied plus labor and equipment costs. Assuming an average of 2 gallons mixed per acre and roughly 50,000 acres treated in a year, total volume would be ~100,000 gallons. At an estimated $8‑$20 per gallon (including chemicals, mixing, labor, and equipment), the annual payment could range from $800,000 to $2,000,000. Adding optional renewal years could double the total value. Therefore a realistic earnings range is roughly half‑a‑million to two‑million dollars for the base year.
