Reducing Child Labor in Ethiopian Agriculture Using a Gender Focused Approach

The Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) intends to award a cooperative agreement of $5,000,000 to an organization to reduce child labor in Ethiopia’s agricultural sector using a gender-focused approach. The project aims to achieve three outcomes: increased technical capacity of the Government of Ethiopia to address child labor, improved ability of communities to reduce child labor, and increased economic stability of households vulnerable to child labor. The project will focus on vulnerable women and adolescent girls working in the agriculture sector. • The project will use a gender mainstreaming approach, which is defined as the process of assessing the implications for women and men of any planned action at all levels with the aim of achieving gender equality. • The project will aim to achieve the following outcomes: (1) Increased technical capacity of the Government of Ethiopia to address child labor in the agricultural sector, with a focus in the informal sector, using a gender mainstreaming approach; (2) Improved ability of communities to reduce child labor using a gender mainstreaming approach; and (3) Increased economic stability of households vulnerable to child labor, with a focus on women and girls. • The Employment and Training Administration (ETA)’s Office of Grants Management anticipates publishing a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) around July 13, 2020, and intends to make awards by November 30, 2020.
