Description

The Applied Mathematics program supports mathematics research motivated by and contributing to the solution of problems arising in science and engineering. Successful proposals must demonstrate mathematical innovation, as well as breadth and quality of impact on applications. The program encourages projects that provide opportunities for rigorous mathematical training of junior applied mathematicians through their involvement in research. The proposals considered by the Applied Mathematics program may range from single investigator to interdisciplinary team projects. • The program supports conferences, workshops, summer/winter schools, and similar activities, but proposals for these events should be submitted through the program solicitation "Conferences and Workshops in the Mathematical Sciences". • Proposals for conferences, workshops, etc., to be held in the US must be submitted 8 months in advance of the conference date. • Proposals to support group travel to meetings outside the US must be submitted 12 months in advance of the meeting date. • Proposals for conferences, workshops, etc., whose budget request exceeds $50,000 must be submitted during the annual November submission window.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $500,000

The budget amount for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document, but we can estimate it based on the fact that the program supports mathematics research and conferences, workshops, summer/winter schools, and similar activities. The budget request for these events can exceed $50,000, and the program encourages proposals that provide opportunities for rigorous mathematical training of junior applied mathematicians. Therefore, the budget amount may range from $50,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the scope and complexity of the proposed project. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of proposals submitted, the quality of the proposals, and the availability of funds.
