Special Diabetes Program for Indians

The Special Diabetes Program for Indians aims to provide diabetes treatment and/or prevention activities and/or services for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. The program is administered by the Indian Health Service (IHS) and provides awards for diabetes treatment and prevention services. Recipients will implement one Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) Diabetes Best Practice and report data on the Best Practice’s Required Key Measure (RKM). They may also implement other activities/services based on diabetes-related community needs and develop an evaluation plan. Key requirements include participating in the Annual Diabetes Audit, selecting and implementing a Best Practice, collaborating with the IHS, and submitting required reports. Some of the key points to consider include: • The program provides funding for diabetes treatment and prevention services in AI/AN communities. • Recipients must implement one SDPI Diabetes Best Practice and report data on the RKM. • The program requires collaboration with the IHS and participation in the Annual Diabetes Audit. • Recipients must submit required reports, including progress reports and financial reports. • The program has a focus on community-based initiatives and requires recipients to develop an evaluation plan.
