The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) seeks a single qualified organization to operate the EDIC Research Center, continuing long‑term follow‑up of the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (EDIC) cohort. The award is a cooperative agreement (U01) that will fund hypothesis‑driven research, cohort infrastructure, data collection, and collaborative studies using the EDIC data set, biospecimens, and emerging technologies.
• Maintain and expand the EDIC cohort infrastructure (clinical visits, biosample storage, data management).
• Conduct hypothesis‑based research on type 1 diabetes complications (microvascular, cardiovascular, liver, sleep, mortality, frailty).
• Apply advanced analytics (machine learning, AI) and multi‑omic approaches to identify risk phenotypes.
• Evaluate emerging therapies (e.g., SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP‑1 agonists) for renal and cardiovascular outcomes.
• Share data and biospecimens through the NIDDK Central Repository; comply with NIH Data Management & Sharing Plan.
• Provide annual progress reports (RPPR) and financial statements; adhere to NIH grant policies.
The award is limited to one application per eligible institution, with an estimated total funding of $6.3 million.
