The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source master cooperative agreement for an Ethnographic Resource Study. The project aims to provide baseline documentation identifying traditionally associated communities, contemporary communities, and communities of interest associated with Carter G. Woodson Home NHS. The study will include oral history collection, descriptions of historical and contemporary resource use, a bibliography of ethnohistorical and ethnographic information, and recommendations for further studies. The project will be conducted by an ethno-historian, anthropologist, and/or sociologist meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications for History.
• The project will involve identification and documentation of communities with traditional and contemporary associations, as well as other communities of interest throughout the African Diaspora.
• The project will include a records survey of the National Archives, Library of Congress, local historical societies, and archives at local universities and libraries.
• The project will involve coordination with the park and other researchers to collect oral histories with descendants and community members.
• The project will result in a report detailing the communities of significance to the park and resources.
• The project will provide opportunities for graduate students and other youth to learn about the nation’s resources by spending time working on projects in National Parks.
