Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has released its annual omnibus Research Announcement, Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2022. This program element, High Priority Open-Source Science, is one of the individual program elements within ROSES. The program aims to support basic and applied research and technology in space and Earth sciences. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers. The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • Proposals may be submitted at any time, pending certain eligibility timing issues. • The ROSES-22 version of this program element will overlap with the ROSES-23 version, allowing continuous submission of proposals. • Proposers must retrieve the instructions document associated with the application package for this opportunity. • Technical questions concerning specific program elements should be directed to the point(s) of contact for that particular element.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the award amount is not specified. However, considering the nature of the program, which supports research and technology in space and Earth sciences, the award amount could range from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million dollars. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the scope and complexity of the proposed research, the experience and qualifications of the proposer, and the availability of funds. For example, if the proposed research involves a small team and a limited scope, the award amount might be on the lower end of the range, around $200,000 to $500,000. On the other hand, if the proposed research involves a large team, complex experiments, and significant resources, the award amount could be on the higher end of the range, around $2 million to $5 million.
