The Defense Health Agency is soliciting applications for the Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center – Leadership Award. This award aims to develop successful, highly productive post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) researchers in a collaborative research and career development environment. The award will support two Principal Investigators (PIs), a Director and a Deputy Director, who will lead the Virtual Post-Traumatic Epilepsy Research Center (ViP-TERC). The ViP-TERC will provide intensive mentoring, national networking, collaborations, and a peer group for new PTE investigators. The award has a maximum period of performance of 4 years and a total cost cap of $1.6M. Some key responsibilities of the ViP-TERC Leadership include setting the vision and mission of the ViP-TERC, acting as a resource for all Faculty members, developing assessment criteria to evaluate research progress, and facilitating communication and collaboration among all Faculty members and Career Guides.
Key points to consider:
• The award is a partnering mechanism, requiring an Initiating PI and a Partnering PI.
• The ViP-TERC Leadership should have complementary expertise and experience.
• The award will support the development of early-career investigators and investigators new to the PTE field.
• The award requires collaboration with the lived-experience community and the establishment of a Lived-Experience Consultant Panel.
• The award has a focus on military health and encourages applicants to integrate and/or align their application with DOW and/or VA research laboratories and programs.
