Purchase of Right-of-Way Trees

The City of Ames is soliciting bids from qualified contractors to supply eighty (80) nursery stock trees, with a caliper of 0.75 inch to 1.5 inch. The city reserves the right to adjust the final number of trees to meet project needs. The trees must meet specific guidelines and specifications, including being true to name, complying with federal and state laws, and being free of pests and diseases. The contractor is responsible for delivering the trees to the City of Ames Parks and Recreation Office by May 14, 2026, and for replacing any trees that are more than 75% dead or have fully died within one year of planting. Some key points to consider: • The overall planning should consist of approximately 50% tall shade tree species, 25% medium height shade tree species, and 25% shorter ornamental species. • No one species shall be greater than 10% of the proposal, with no one genus greater than 20% of the proposal. • Tree species native to the greater Midwest/Great Plains region of the United States should make up at least 50% of the proposal. • The contractor must comply with the guidelines and specifications outlined in the attachments, including proper identification, compliance, tree characteristics, and inspection.
