Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking a wearable, portable full-body Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) motion capture system. The system must function without fixed optical camera infrastructure and capture high-fidelity human skeletal data. The acquisition includes hardware and software for the development of a motion action dataset. The system should have at least 17 sensors per suit, a sampling rate of at least 60 Hz, and support standard subject calibration and body model scaling. The contractor should describe how the system addresses magnetic interference and drift. The system should also support export of time-series motion data and SMPTE timecode synchronization with external systems. Key features of the system include: • Wearable, portable full-body IMU motion capture system • Full-body coverage with at least 17 sensors per suit • Sampling rate of at least 60 Hz • Supports standard subject calibration and body model scaling • Addresses magnetic interference and drift • Supports export of time-series motion data • Supports SMPTE timecode synchronization with external systems

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The budget for this contract can be estimated based on the complexity and customization of the wearable full-body IMU motion capture system. Considering the requirements for the system, including the number of sensors, sampling rate, and support for standard subject calibration, the cost could range from $200,000 to $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the system will require significant development and customization to meet the specified requirements. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the cost of materials, labor, and research and development required to create the system.
